Focusing on energy conservation
Higher production, lower energy consumption – in the past few years, Cognis has made significant progress in reconciling these two apparent contradictions. In Cincinnati, USA, Cognis started work in installing a new steam generation system at the end of 2006. It consists of three low-pressure boilers and one high-pressure boilers. This arrangement allows fuel flexibility, including the use of naturally renewable biofuels. The new plant will enable the decommissioning of the coal-fired high-pressure steam boiler plus three other aging units. As a secondary effect, the new boilers will dramatically increase reliability. And a condensate-recovery project will deliver additional energy savings.
