History of Cognis Indonesia

In Indonesia, Cognis has started its business activities in 1974 with the establishment of PT Zeta Aneka Kimia, the sole agent of Henkel, followed by the establishment of PT Henkel Indonesia, a chemical manufacturing company under foreign investment law, in 1976. The main products of Cognis Indonesia (previously Henkel Indonesia) have been surfactants, such as fatty alcohol sulfates (foaming and cleaning agents for toothpastes) and fatty alcohol ether sulfates (foaming and cleaning agents for shampoos). These products, and various specialty chemicals from Cognis Germany, have made Cognis Indonesia the biggest supplier of Care Chemicals for manufacturers of personal care products like cosmetics, toiletries, detergent and household cleansers in the country.

Following the carving out of Henkel’s Chemicals Division to be a separate legal entity named “Cognis”, PT Henkel Indonesia was renamed into PT Cognis Indonesia focusing on the manufacturing and distribution of high value specialty chemicals: Care Chemicals, Nutrition & Health, and Functional Products. Simultaneously, PT Zeta Aneka Kimia, previously the distributor of Henkel’s products was changed into PT Henkel Indonesia focusing on the manufacture and distribution of the Adhesives and Surface Technologies business segments.
