What began at the start of the 20th century with the invention of a semi-synthetic adhesive based on cellulose has grown into a major technological field co-populated by a wide range of highly specialized adhesives serving virtually every sector of industry. More and more, these bonding agents are replacing expensive joining processes such as welding, screw fastening and riveting.

Our customers require high-performance raw materials and modern concepts in order to achieve the high quality standards required of their formulations. Cognis develops binding solutions for the transportation, packaging, construction and consumer adhesive markets. We offer adhesive manufacturers a comprehensive portfolio of performance monomers, specialty resins and additives. Our components and complexes can be found both in the simple wood glue for the do-it-yourselfer and in the highly specialized adhesives used in automobile construction. But we’re not sticking there. Rather, we are consistently investing in our own know-how with a view to creating new, innovative building blocks and smart systems for the adhesives sector. Our third-generation resins are playing a leading role in the market. These curing components enable the manufacture of high-performance two-pack adhesives. Our polyester diols provide for outstanding adhesion to difficult substrates, and our Photomer® range ensures high bonding strength. Finally, our mercaptans enable exceptional hardness to be achieved in just a few split seconds.
